Shippensburg Middle School Music
All students attend Music Class in the exploratory block in each year they attend the middle school. Music is a cumulative course through the three years.
The 6th grade is introduced to the Yamaha LC4 Music Lab System and NoteFlight, a ,usic composition program. The students will explore music and will develop reading, writing and performing skills.
The 7th grade progresses to the level of simple composition skills and each student will be able to compose in several basic hand positions for the keyboard.

8th grade students will study chord structure and chord progressions. They will apply these skills in the guitar unit. Students will perform a simple children's song comprised of three chords on the guitar.
The 8th grade will finish their middle school music experience with a study in Jazz. They will explore the history and development of this unique american art form.

There are nine performance ensembles here at the Middle School. Music talent is evident here at the Middle School and in the larger community of Shippensburg. We encourage individual musical development and a cooperative and committed spirit in all our young musicians.
